About

A Legacy of Care
Our Story
Founded in 1994 as a nonprofit organization, The Healing Journey Foundation was born from the vision of Charlotte DeGreen, wife of the founding physician of the Lancaster Cancer Center and a breast cancer survivor herself. Through her own journey, she recognized that patients need more than medical care alone—they need emotional, spiritual, and practical support throughout their journey with cancer. It was her vision that has led to decades of care beyond treatment.
Today, we continue that mission by offering free programs and advocacy to empower cancer patients and their families across Lancaster County. Our goal is simple: to walk beside every individual on their healing journey, offering hope, compassion, and strength along the way.

Our Mission:
Our Values
We value the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.
From the start, we’ve understood that cancer impacts every area of life: physical, emotional, spiritual, and financial. We come alongside each unique individual with the hope of easing the burden in at least one part of that journey. Step by step, our desire is to see you rise above hardship and take comfort in knowing you are not alone.
To provide compassionate support, vital resources, and dedicated advocacy for cancer patients and their families. We are committed to enhancing quality of life through: Educational Programs, Emotional Support, and Access to Essential Services.
By raising awareness and building partnerships within the Lancaster community, we strive to empower patients, inspire hope, and ensure that no one faces the cancer journey alone.
The Healing Garden
at Lancaster Cancer Center:
A Restorative Nature
The garden is a peaceful place that promotes healing in patients, families, and staff. Researchers Marcus and Barnes conducted a study where 95% of those interviewed said their mood improved after spending time outside, changing from depressed, stressed, and anxious to calmer and more balanced.
Year after year, the Healing Journey Foundation continues to enhance this environment so that visitors can connect spiritually with themselves and outside themselves.
